Naming & Welcome ceremonies

There’s nothing more worth celebrating than an addition to your family, whether it’s a newborn, an adopted child or you’re blending families.

Baby’s first ceremony

A naming or welcome ceremony is so much more than a non-religious christening. It’s your opportunity to celebrate your new arrival with the people closest to you.

I will help you create a unique and personal occasion with meaningful words written just for you. The ceremony can be held anywhere, anytime and you can appoint the equivalent of godparents – often called guideparents (or even sparents!) – who promise to share their experience and their love.

A later-in-life ceremony

If you have an adopted child or you’re blending families, what better way to make a young person feel truly part of your wider family than to have a loving ceremony of welcome?

How I will help

Once we’ve met, I draft a ceremony that is perfectly designed for your family. I also liaise with the venue, if applicable, and with anyone else who will take part.

On the day, I lead the ceremony, supporting everyone who is involved and helping ensure that, wherever we are, everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Your ceremony, your choice

Because every ceremony is tailored to you, the first step is always a chat to find out if I’m the right celebrant for you. Let’s find out what magic we can make together!

Personalising your ceremony

Poems and readings

Traditional or modern, emotional or jokey, if you’d like to include poems or readings I will find some that suit your family perfectly. Or you may prefer to suggest your own for me or someone else to read.

Promises

The most moving part of the ceremony comes when adults make promises to the child. I can help you find just the right words , suggest a ‘call and response’ or simply be your support on the day.

Symbolic gestures

Actions often speak louder than words and I will suggest elements symbolising love and unity that set your child’s ceremony apart from any other.

Ah, Susan it was lovely having you there and you were magnificent! Honestly, you were brilliant and your words were so apt for the occasion
